[Bad username: coffee_and_cocoa] has inspired me to post some summer recipes.

This is a chilled soup I got from the Bloodroot Collective's recipe book:

curried zucchini soup

5 medium zucchini
1 large onion
1 seeded green pepper
3 cups water
1 1/2 tablespoons curry powder

1 cup heavy cream
1/2 cup milk
2 cups plain yogurt
3 tablespoons tamari
1/4 teaspoon ground coriander
1/2 teaspoon turmeric
small bunch of parsley, chopped

Coarsely chop the zucchini, onion, and pepper. Add curry powder. Boil in 3 cups of water.

When vegetables are soft, puree (I used my immersion blender). Add heavy cream, milk, yogurt, tamari, coriander, turmeric, and parsley. Taste for seasoning. Chill. Serve with another dollop of yogurt and/or matchsticks of zucchini.

And, since we have new HP canon:

Pumpkin Pie Smoothie:

Blend:

1/2 banana
1/3 cup pumpkin puree
1/3 cup plain Greek yogurt
3/4 cup vanilla almond milk (or vanilla soy milk)
few shakes of pumpkin pie spice
4-5 ice cubes

Yay!

End of my school week, so yay, (one of my classes is so boring) plus I finished most of my work early, only have a exam and journal to focus on.

Looks like I'll have $30 extra (after I spend $60 on all of the TV Sets I need) on Black Friday if I don't miss any days on bing, so I might try and use it on some blu rays I want, mainly Marvel if they are on sale. But I might only get Arrow Season 2 ($10) and spend the rest on a TV box set, my main favorite is Boy Meets World, so I hope it is on sale.

I'm reading The Walled City of Ryan Graudin (an ARC from Netgalley) I like the way it is written, but it has a lot of touchy subjects. Plus I'm listening to The Raven Boys first novel on my Iphone.

Plus I bought some ebooks:
Rule: Marked Men Novel # 1 - Jay Crownover. I've had this on my too read this for a while, and it was $1.99 on kindle, so yeah.

Providence (Providence #1) by

There is a chance I'll be going to see Tammy tonight, so excited about that. :D

"Extant" Series Premiere

Extant 1x01
It's a Summer show! I loved it. The Pilot even managed to freak me out during the dead husband visitation/hallucination sequence. I'm looking forward to the next episode. If nothing else, it's leagues better than the silliness that turned out to be Under the Dome. Ok, that comparison may not even fair because the Extant Pilot was pretty decent IMO.

Murder in the First
Not great, definitely not great, but it's entertaining.

The Wire 3x09, "Slapstick"
This show proved elusive for a long time. It wasn't until I signed up for HBO Go that I was able to resume watching it (now it's on Amazon Prime as well, heh). THIS SHOW. This show has bewildered me, angered me, and it has made me cry. It has also broken my heart; this episode was one of those times. Oh Prez. :( You were so happy investigating and doing your Sherlock Holmes thing. Whyyyyyyy?

31 days movie meme

Day 07 - Least favorite movie by a favorite actor or actress

Okay, so in terms of movies my favorite actor is Johnny Depp. And I have this thing where an actor or actress I really, really love can make even the most horrible movie or episode in a tv show great. Not always though.

I would say the tourist, mostly because it's the only one of his films I haven't seen, but that isn't fair because I haven't seen it. Honestly? Public enemies, it's the only movie I didn't enjoy at all (which isn't that strange it so totally doens't fall into my kind of movie) and the only thing I enjoyed was his acting.

Day 08 - Movie that should be required high school viewing

Seriously? I have no idea. I mean this should be some kind of meaningful movie, right? With a good message. I keep thinking 'Le huitieme jour' but that's because I saw it in hig school.

You know what? I am Sam. It's a beautiful movie with a beautiful message and more people should see it. (HOneslty I have no answer for this one.)

My NPT fic :D

My fic!!

The Man in the Gabardine Suit is a Spy (1823 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Captain America (Movies)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Steve Rogers/Natasha Romanov
Characters: Steve Rogers, Natasha Romanov, Nick Fury
Summary:

Steve and Natasha are on the run. Until one day, they aren't.

-

It's pretty great. One of my prompts was for Steve and Natasha being on the run for longer than in the movie, but I never thought to myself what that would look like. What it looks like in a slightly more dystopian MUC is "us against the world" in SPADES. And if you know me, you know that is one of my favorite things.

Also, like I said, title. The title is brilliant. (Maybe I would like song titles more often if they were for songs I actually knew and were as apt as this one is. For the record, it's from a Simon and Garfunkel song called "America" (!), about a literal and metaphorical journey of self-discovery. It so happens to be one of my personal S&G faves, too!)

I want to like the Zahn book I started, but got disappointed early.

I started reading the Blackcollar series by Timothy Zahn last night. So far, I'm a little over one-third of the way through the first book, and the only woman I've seen is a sleeping wife that someone colluding with the alien overlords kisses goodbye before he heads off to do battle.

Seriously? Humanity has been under alien occupation for twenty-plus years and you're telling me it's only men who are in the underground resistance? Or in the military? Or collaborating with alien overlords?

What the hell, Zahn? How could you do something so ridiculous and unrealistic? After giving us an amazing character like Mara Jade, not to mention the amazing writing you did on Leia and Winter in the Thrawn trilogy, I expected better of you. I realize that book one was originally written in 1983, and yet, honestly, did he not actually study some history before writing this? Like, I don't know, the French Resistance or something? Was that not recent or realistic enough for him?

ARGH.

I love military science fiction. I just prefer my military science fiction to have, you know, women. Half the population. Not that hard to write about, are they? Really?

I have a little challenge to myself whenever I take stock of my cookbook bookcase and realize I've bought a bunch of cookbooks over the last six months or so that I haven't explored/used enough: make at least one recipe from each one I have neglected in the next month, or cookbook buying goes on hiatus.   And how sad would it be if that happened?

The Smitten Kitchen cookbook made it to the list because though I can testify that I love those gee dee lemon bars (and nope, they're not the same ones on the blog) I hadn't tried any of the savory dishes until tonight.

Zucchini Ribbons with Almond Pesto, y'all.  Seriously.  *faints dead away*

So, toasted almonds, parmesan, a little garlic, lemon juice, crushed red pepper, olive oil, and raw ribbons of zucchini made using your joe basic peeler.  Simple, right?  I do not think I can communicate how freaking amazing the results were.  The Mister, who likes zucchini anyway, kept exclaiming things like, "This is a keeper!" and "Can we make this the next time we have friends over?" like he wanted to show off its awesomeness.  Like, I had to cram the remainder into a container and shove it into the refrigerator so I wouldn't finish off the whole thing when I was putting the leftovers away, that's how good this dish was.  It's basically a raw food dish (though I did toast the almonds as recommended you wouldn't have to), and it could absolutely stand for a "pasta" type dish for someone who is gluten free but can tolerate/likes tree nuts.

Has anyone else been making savory dishes from that cookbook that they've really enjoyed/would recommend I give a try?  So not from her blog this time -- yes, I use the blog too, but I actually would really love to encourage people to buy this cookbook or come tell me all the dishes they love so far from it.
